Dr. Anthia Wint Speaks Out on Oklahoma’s Historic “Food is Medicine Act”
Why Prescribing Food—Not Just Pills—Is the Future of Health Care in America
In a bold move that could transform health care across the nation, Oklahoma has just passed the “Food is Medicine Act” (SB 806)—and holistic health leader Dr. Anthia Wint is here for it.
As the founder of Finest Herbal Shop, recipient of the USA Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award, and one of the leading voices in holistic public health, Dr. Wint believes this legislation is not just a policy win—it’s a wake-up call.
“We’ve treated food like a luxury, not a necessity. This bill shifts the narrative: food is medicine. And for many, it’s the medicine they need most.”
— Dr. Anthia Wint, Holistic Practitioner
What Is the “Food is Medicine Act”?
Signed into law in 2025, Oklahoma’s SB 806 will allow Medicaid to cover medically tailored meals and produce prescriptions for patients with chronic conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, and cancer.
The initiative is modeled after successful pilot programs like Fresh RX Oklahoma, which showed dramatic improvements in patient health through weekly boxes of fruits and vegetables prescribed by doctors.
Dr. Wint’s Take: “Nature Was First—Medicine Came Later”
Dr. Wint, who has spent decades teaching about herbal healing, gut health, and spiritual detoxification, sees the bill as proof that the medical system is finally catching up.
She explains that:
“Food grown in healing soil, prepared with intention, and supported by natural herbs? That’s medicine in its highest form,” Dr. Wint adds.
A Win for Low-Income and Black & Brown Communities
Dr. Wint also highlights the equity implications of this law. Many underserved populations lack access to affordable, healing food—and often bear the brunt of diet-related diseases.
“We’ve watched communities suffer from food deserts while prescriptions pile up. This bill plants the seeds for real change.”
Why This Could Go National
Oklahoma may have just started a movement. Nutrition and health equity advocates nationwide are urging other states to follow suit.
Dr. Wint is calling on holistic leaders, nutritionists, and doctors to rally behind this model—not only to reduce disease, but to restore dignity and sovereignty to people’s health.
